Over the years, Maryan worked many jobs, but teaching, especially religious education, was her true passion. Maryan met the love of her life, James Cronin and they married in 1967.

Sharon cared for Earl after he developed ALS until his passing in 2012 and remained a resident of Custer, SD until the Fall of 2021 when she returned to Northwest Arkansas to be near loved ones. She passed away peacefully at her home on a bright, sunny day, surrounded by friends, family and beautiful music. She loved art, both collecting beautiful pieces and creating with her grandchildren at her home studio. She was famous in her family for her colorful hand-painted holiday cards.

Her other community roles included a Cub Scouts den mother, a member of Ingomar United Methodist Church, a Republican committee woman and Election Board member of Franklin Park, and a volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels. Many of the people she delivered meals to were much younger than she was. Eleanor was married for 52 years to the late George R. Wist. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, David; a daughter-in-law, Sandi; and her two brothers and their wives, Wayne and Emmor Porter. Eleanor's was a life well-lived, full of kindness and generosity.
